Ms Naki is our learner support and also a past student of Toise SSS. This is Ms Naki’s story:

I am a young enthusiastic lady that  love working with people and loves to help people achieve success.

I am a outgoing person that loves to with groups of individuls.

In 2019 In the heart of all the challenges of life and Covid19 I became a volunteer at Toise and assist in the computer lab. I understand the importance of technology as I a former student was given the tools by Sifunda Kunye Educational project’s in 2011 through Computer literacy course to know the basic computer skills I needed.

I am currently volunteering my time in the lab to assist and equip learners with the same skills that was a life changer when it came to technology in my life.

My main role at school is a learner support agent, I deal mainly with learner behavior and life in general.

My purpose is to furfill my duties and volunteer in our school lab to help learners in anyway I can.

My confidence with computers was directly impacted by Sifunda Kunye Educational project. Toise SSS is my past High school and my passion for education and our youth started here. I am grateful do be part of Toise SSS and Sifunda Kunye project.

Sifunda Kunye writing competition 2021

Sifunda Kunye Literacy project hosts annual writing camps for our partner schools but due to COVID we were unable to host our annual writing camp.

However, Sifunda Kunye launched an writing competition for our partner schools, together with our newsletter clubs and English faculty members at our schools our competition was successfully run.

Competition details was to write a short story themed “Where there is a will there is a way”

Top achievers from our partner schools were from St Matthews High School and Hendrik Kanise combined school.

Our 2021 writing competition winner was Natasha Mpondo from St Matthews High School in Keiskammahoek.

Congratulations to all learners that wrote in to our competition, keep on exploring your creative side.

History of Sifunda Kunye Writing Camp:

Innovative Writing Camp Empowers Learners

Eighty learners from four area schools explored creativity, learning, and self-expression in an intense writing camp over the weekend.  The camp was sponsored and hosted by the Sifunda Kunye Educational Project, a local public benefit organization that has been active in the King Williams Town district since 2008.

Sifunda Kunye invites 10 to 15 learners from each of its partner schools in the King William’s Town District and Grahamstown district participate in these camps.  This past weekend, learners from St. Matthew’s, Xolani, Richard Varha, Toise and Hendrik Kanise combined Schools spent an intense 3 days (Friday-Sunday) focusing on a specific theme, completing personal works, and submitting them for peer critique.  This session’s theme was “Dreams are made of…” and learners were encouraged to express what dreams and ambitions  means to them in essays, poems, and group discussions and drama. Participants received guidance from a talented group of volunteer facilitators, student leaders, and the Sifunda Kunye staff.  .” Participants submit their work for inclusion into a published student journal at the end of the camp.  The journal is a unique opportunity for many to see their work in print.

Learners and teachers are continually impressed with the writing camps.  Participants relish the opportunity to engage in an in-depth weekend of imaginative learning.  They enjoy improving their language and writing skills in a fun and creative venue outside of the classroom.  Teacher’s enjoy witnessing the progress these young writers make over the course of a weekend.

The Sifunda Kunye Literacy Project’s writing camps have been successfully running since they first launched in August 2014.  Sifunda Kunye is a non-profit that relies on donations and grants to support its literacy and technology programs in Eastern Cape schools.

Sifunda Kunye computer lab at our school follows a caps aligned software program Cami. The program helps learners with English and mathematic skills.

The lab is also fully equipped with the internet that provides learners with the opportunity to access the internet for research, application to university and much more. Toise SSS are lucky to be connected to a fully functional lab, the lab assist our learners to connected to the outside world as many rural school in South Africa does not have the same opportunity.

Sifunda Kunye computer lab that is fully supported by full time Sifunda Kunye employees. Our computer lab creates great opportunity of computer literacy and assistance to many learners.

The use of technology is extremely important in todays life and our teachers and faculty is grateful to be one of the partner schools of Sifunda Kunye.

 

Debating club

Twenty schools was identified by beyond zero in conjunction with the department of education to take part in debating coemption held on the 13th of September 2021.

All schools that participated Toise SSS won the debating at district level and will now debate at provisional level .

The five school competing against each other at provisional level:

Grade 12 farewell and motivation 2021

We celebrated our grade 12 farewell with a lunch and motivational speakers from different organisations in the Eastern Cape. We used the event to celebrated all achievements by our grade 12 learners this year.

Sifunda Kunye project manager Zander Hampson did a motivational speech for our partner school Toise SSS.

Life is full of challenges, Nothing is impossible and anything is achievable if you change your perspective, your dreams are possible through a positive perspective and a positive attitude.

Mr Hampson did a visual demonstration with the grade 12 class, to demonstrate, anything is possible even your dreams if you change your perspective.

Wishing the class of 2021 good luck for the upcoming trial and final examinations.

Learners of all grades was very excited to return to our computer lab this term. The computer lab has been a huge resource to our school for many years using a program called Cami. The learners use this software program to improve English and math’s skills. Our lab is also fully equipped with internet.

Welcoming Back our Learners 2020

During this trying year the world is facing an pandemic that no one planned for but we had to reopen our school to safe the academic year.

Although the Covid19 infection rate in South Africa is currently declining, we take safety precautions to minimize the spread of Covid19.

Our classrooms are cleaned and sanitized daily, our computer lab sponsored by Sifunda Kunye has been an advantage to our pupils to catch up lost school work through online research. Thandile Mazukwe has been assisting learners with Cami English and maths to prepare them for examination.

The world are facing difficult time but we at Toise SSS are doing our part in curbing the spread.
